Count your breaths
per minute
Breathe normally. Tap the circle each time you finish breathing out. After a minute, or ten breaths, the tool shows your rate next to the resting range. Nothing is recorded.
breaths per minute
A resting adult breathes about 12 to 18 times a minute.1 Slow-breathing research works under 10, often at 6. What the number means and doesn't.
Want it measured instead of tapped?
Tapping works with your eyes open and your attention on the count, which is the opposite of a sit. With the camera on, quiettime reads your breaths per minute and how long each inhale and exhale ran during the sit itself, eyes closed, nothing worn, nothing recorded. How it reads your breath.
When exactly do I tap?
At the end of each exhale, the moment before the next inhale starts. The first tap starts the clock; the rate comes from the breaths after it.
How long should I count?
A full minute is best. The tool also stops after ten breaths, which at a slow rate can take longer than a minute.
Is this accurate?
It is as accurate as your tapping. It is a quick check, not a measurement. For the measured version during a sit, with nothing to tap, there is the app.
